Moody in praise of County’s new boy

TOM Moody is backing new Worcestershire signing Steve Magoffin to thrive as their overseas player during the first half of the 2008 campaign.

Moody, a former Worcestershire director of cricket and player, knows all about Magoffin's capabilities from being his current coach with Western Warriors.

And the former Sri Lanka coach and Australian Test batsman believes the wickets at New Road in April and May will be ideally suited to the 28-year-old paceman.

Moody told PA Sport: "Steve has had a couple of good seasons with the Warriors, has taken a fair number of wickets in the Pura Cup this winter, and he will do well in England.

"He is a hit-the-deck type of bowler, a seam bowler and, with the movement early season in England, he will be a handful. He will enjoy bowling in the April-May time of the season."

Magoffin has taken 29 wickets in the Pura Cup for the Warriors this season at an average of 23.31 runs apiece.

He will link up with the county in early April in time for the opening LV County Championship match with Warwickshire and be available until June 9 with West Indies paceman Fidel Edwards taking over for the second half of the campaign.
